Mystery Quilt Along Fabric Reveal

On November 16, 2017 Tracy at It’s A T-Sweets day and I announced a brand new Mystery Quilt Along. Details of the event can be found at the bottom of this post. In our post we indicated that the mystery fabric would be revealed early in December. Well, today is the day!

I am the lucky person to choose the fabric for this Quilt Along. Tracy will have the opportunity next time. For our first Mystery Quilt Along you must include the following fabric

Biscuits & Gravy Fluffer Nutter You Be You by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics

Fluffer Nutter You Be You
Fluffer Nutter You Be You

I chose the fabric mostly because Fluffer Nutter makes me giggle every time I say it. 🙂 I also chose it because this Quilt Along, other than dictating your main fabric, gives you the chance to be creative. It allows You ‘to’ Be You.

There are no rules on what to make. You can make a pillow, place mat, table runner, lap quilt, bed quilt, mug rug, wall hanging or simply just a quilt square. The sky is the limit.

The Quilt Along begins January 1, 2018. Are you in? If so, leave a comment here or on Tracy’s blog. Unless you indicate otherwise we will add your name to our list of participants. This will give others the opportunity to watch your progress. 🙂 Remember you may also post photos to Instagram using this hashtag #mystery_qal.

We hope that you are as excited as we are to participate. 🙂 Share your enthusiasm by spreading the word to your family and friends as well as your readers. Let’s see how many people we can get involved.

There is one very important thing we almost forgot to mention, one lucky person will receive a prize. The name will be selected randomly. That lucky winner will receive one yard of fabric for our second Mystery Quilt Along FREE! Now isn’t that special! 🙂

Any questions? If not then get busy and purchase the Fluffer Nutter You Be You fabric and start brainstorming on how you will use it. Then on January 1, 2018 start creating your masterpiece.

Camo iPad Tote

Free Fabric!

Before we get started with today’s post let my remind you of my First Anniversary’s Give-Away.  I’m celebrating this blog’s first anniversary by giving away a free charm pack.  Check out the link above for the specifics.  You wouldn’t want to miss out on a chance to get free fabric.  Now on to today’s WIP post.

Tag-Along

Not too long ago I assembled a tutorial showcasing the construction of a Tag-Along tote. Before embarking on the construction of the Tag-Along I had begun a quest to make a tote suitable for my iPad and keyboard.  Being unsatisfied with the options available I went through the process of developing my own pattern.  My first mock-up showed room for improvement.  Since I already had the pattern for the Tag-Along I decided to try it out as an alternative.  As I assembled the tote I made numerous changes to the pattern.  While I am quite pleased with my finished product there were things about the Tag-Along I just wasn’t happy with so I went back to the drawing board and resurrected My Original design.

My Original Design

This time around I set out to overcome the issues I had with my first mock-up.  Missing on the first attempt were handles, a pocket for miscellaneous items and tabs to keep each pocket as well as the entire case securely closed.  I also had to address the inadequate size as well as the flimsiness of the layers.  Below are photos of my second attempt.

As you can see this tote was definitely made using fabrics not typically in my stash.  Since the finished project was destined for my husband I let him choose the fabrics.  He was quite thrilled to be in charge of the selections.  I felt a bit strange going to the fabric store’s cutting table with a cart loaded with camouflage, bright orange, black and green bolts of fabric.

If you examine this second tote you will notice my first change.  Not only does this specimen have handles but they wrap completely around the tote.  I felt the handles would provide more security if they were not just attached at the top.  You can also see that I added a closure tab.

Here’s a photo of the inside.  Note each pocket now has a tab closure.  Also added was the pocket for miscellaneous items (look for the camouflage fabric).

From this picture you can see that I made the pockets much deeper.  This time the iPad does not extend above the top edge of the pocket.  Obviously the iPad shown is not my husband’s.  He would never have a pink case on his.  For display purposes I used my own.

My Review

Granted nothing is ever perfect.  I however have plans for a third tote.  With this experiment I want to change the width of the handle, add a pocket for pens and use stabilizers that are not quite so sturdy.  Well, at least that’s what I have in mind so far.  It’s entirely possible there may just be a fourth and fifth version.  Who knows what will happen along my journey to improvement?

I’m Linking Up

I’m linking up this post with Freshly Pieced.  Go see what they are up to.

It’s My First Year Anniversary and We’re Having A Party

You Attention Please . . .     May 6, 2013 Update:  The contest is now closed!

One Year Ago Today

Although 365 days seems like a very long time, looking back it feels like no more than an instant. There are 525,600 minutes in a year. That’s 525,600 opportunities to make a difference. A difference in this world, your community, your family, your own life. What we do with those minutes becomes a part of history. For most of us our efforts will never make us famous. For those few lucky ones their name will we well-known throughout history. Whether you aspire to be one of the lucky ones or are satisfied to live out your existence as an unknown it makes no difference. We are all human. We are all important. We can all make a difference.

A Mini Tour

Now that being said, I would like to take you on a mini tour of my blog’s first year. I won’t bore you with gads of words just pictures. Here’s just a sampling of the 525,600 minutes that transpired in my corner of the world.

Thank You!

The success of my blog has been made possible, in part, by the faithful participation of my readers. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sharing snip its of my life and my business with my audience. The comments of encouragement and praise have touched my life in so many ways. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your thoughts.

Typically as birthdays roll around we make plans to hold a celebration. For some its a quite occasion shared only by a few. For others it’s an extravagant affair filled with drama and attended by many. While this birthday is a moment to celebrate, the event planned is a bit small on the grand scale. I’ve been pondering my celebration for some time. Numerous options circulated through out my imagination. At first I thought perhaps I would create a magnificent work of art and offer it to my readers as a token of my appreciation. While this option would have been a wonderful way to share something made by my hands I decided not to. Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to color and design and I wanted my readers to be able to have a voice in their reward. The option that survived my pondering was the gift of a charm pack valued at less than $13.00 from fabric.com.

So here are the rules:

1. The gift is available to anyone. Meaning it makes no difference whether you live in the United States or abroad.

2. Only one gift will be given away.

3. You have two opportunities to win. The first is by leaving a comment on my blog telling me which charm pack you would prefer. Of course if the charm pack is not available at the time I place the order a charm pack of similar design and color will be chosen.

4. The second chance to win is by following my blog and telling me so in a comment. If you are already a follower just let me know.

5. Make sure I have a way of contacting you in the event your name is chosen.

6. The contest is open from today through midnight (CST) on May 3, 2013.

7. On May 4, 2013, a random name will be chosen through the random.org website. No preference will be given to friends or family. Everyone has the same chance to win.

8. The lucky winner will be notified via email. The individual will have 24 hours to respond. The 24 hour time clock will begin when I hit “send” on the notification email.

9. If for any reason the lucky winner does not respond within the allotted time or chooses to decline the gift for any reason a second random name will be chosen.

10. The confirmed winner of the charm pack gift will be announced on my blog as soon as possible.

11. The charm pack must be chosen from the fabric.com website and be valued at less than $13.00. I will place an order for the charm pack to be shipped directly to you.

Well there you have it. I hope I have addressed all of you questions. If there is a question I have not answered feel free to ask. Best of luck to all who choose to participate.

I Was Wondering?

Before leaving let me ask one favor. I thought it would be fun to run a poll. The question being asked is, of the charm packs listed below, which one is your favorite.

Get Registered!

Thank you so much for visiting today and for following my blog. Now go and register to win, answer my poll and above all pass the word around.

My regards,

Cindy
