I bet you are wondering where the title “Belly Button” came from! Naming my art work is often very easy. In this instance the protruding bead (hand-made by Jimenastreasures, a vendor at Etsy) was the inspiration. The bump created by the bead reminded me of an “outie” bellybutton. This mental image gave me the idea for AP 144’s identity.

While shopping I often search for items that have the potential to be incorporated into my fiber art. This project includes one of my unusual finds. The base of the project is a felted wool beverage coaster. I purchased it from a local vendor that sells wool merchandise. When I saw the coaster I just knew I had to have it and that it would never be used as it was intended. The beverage coaster was machine stitched to an 8”x10” stretched canvas frame with filament thread. Next to be added was a fragment of boro cloth I acquired from an internet vendor. The piece de resistance of course is the hand-made bead.

To finish off the fabric art piece I added a paper barrier on the back. To aide in display a sawtooth hanger was attached at the top in the center. Also present is silicone bumpers to help keep the frame level as well as encourage ventilation.

I know this wonderful specimen would make a lovely addition to your home.
